This Is Not A Riot
This work was a centerpiece at the Abend Gallery booth at the SCOPE : MIAMI art fair in 2019.
I created this triptych of work in 2019. In the wake of the 2018 elections, there was a renewed energy and focus on equality, fairness, and justice. You could feel it on the street, and I immersed myself in reading about the history of how progress is made. In my reading, I once again was reminded of the Stonewall event, when the people said enough is enough. Many called it a riot, but one news outlet aptly shared, "This is not a riot, this is an uprising."

Third in a new series of work where I balance abstraction and academic representation. This is a balance I have sought for years and only here finally feel as though I have achieved some of what I have been chasing for so long.
This series title is based on a set of truths I was given by a mentor when I was young, and have carried with me since.
